Low Cost Or Free Things to Do in Sydney

Posted on July 17, 2023

If you have been planning a trip to Australia and Sydney is on the agenda then here I can give you a little bit of information on some of the ways to do things a little more cost effectively. Sydney is a great place to visit and there are wonderful things to do while you are there. Many people are not aware of these fantastic sites, some of which are even free! There are also a wide variety of cheap hotels in Sydney so whatever your budget you will find something that suits.

When you are in Sydney of course, one of the wonderful things that you must see and something that makes Sydney famous is the amazing Harbour Bridge. It is definitely a sin to visit Sydney and not take in the amazing sight of the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are tours that will allow you to climb the bridge as well if your budget allows for it.

Probably on a par with the Harbour Bridge you have the Sydney Opera House, also famous and more than that it is spectacular. The architectural aspect, even to those with no architectural knowledge, will amaze you. Again, if your budget allows it you can take a tour of the Opera House, or if your budget is even more flexible you can get a ticket for one of the performances at the Opera House. If you think you might like to take a tour then you will find that the Opera House is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm daily.

For those full of energy there are various walks that you can take, self guided and otherwise, through the amazing areas of Sydney. One of these, which I particularly enjoyed on my last visit, was the Commerce Walk. This is a self guided walk and you can obtain information for the exact route from most Sydney Tourism offices. This area is also a great place to find some great accommodation options. There are cheap hotels Sydney CBD so as part of your stay you can take the self guided walk to gain a little insight into the area as well.

Shopping as well is a great event in Sydney. There are the more up market areas and of course price brackets at Oxford Street in Paddington. Or perhaps you prefer to visit areas with more one-off designer shops in Darlingburst. Shopping can be a low budget event, providing you are only window shopping of course. If it is art you are after then you should head to the amazing gallery options at The Rocks. You will find a varied range of jewelry options in this area as well.

Another inexpensive travel option to take in many of the sites on offer in Sydney is to take a trip on the ferry. Sydney offers great visual experiences from the water and you can do this inexpensively by using the ferry service as opposed to paying for a guided tour.

For a special and unique “Australia” experience then a trip to the Art Gallery of New South Wales is well worth the effort, with special focus on a tour that takes in the Aboriginal Art Collection. With this tour you not only see amazing things but the tour guide generally provides in their format additional information that is typically Australian and typically aboriginal. Information such as some insight into what bush tucker is. This is something that anyone visiting Australia should be aware of!

So with a great range of things to do and see, some with very minimal cost or no cost at all, all combined with cheap hotels in Sydney you can very easily have a low cost trip to this wonderful country. Perhaps after your visit you might have your own words of wisdom to pass on to the next group of travelers. Ideas and hints that are not covered here or even update facts or tips on the information I have provided. Take the time to visit, Sydney and Australia are great places. CBD Drops UK
